Even though it was my fourth visit to Puri, I never felt I am rediscovering the place. That’s because the last time I came here was nineteen years ago. Such a long gap! The memories of last three times were hazy.
Fresh Experience :-
All through the journey, I remained on the edge of the seat, holding my breath in excitement. All I could think of was how the sight of the sea would be like, and how the waves will swell and then wind up on the shore losing their vigor.
You must be thinking I spent the whole night wide awake.
You are wrong. I slept very well in the Puri Express, which came in the right time, and picked us from the Howrah station. After getting off the train, we hired an auto-rickshaw and headed to the Holiday Home, booked earlier over the phone. The holiday home belonged to Coal India.
On the first day of our trip, we went out for sightseeing and mostly strutted around the beach. Next morning, we bought fish from a makeshift market on the beach. The fish wasn’t cheap, but its quality was worth the money. The holiday-home was self-catering, and we cooked our food.
The evening is the best time to walk on the beach. I spent almost three hours meandering around the shore and enjoyed watching the waves mounting as high as a summit. Scattered rays of the setting sun fell on the beach during the golden hours and made it look incredibly beautiful.
“I look my best when I’m totally free, on holiday, walking on the beach.”
– – Caskie Stinnett
The Marine Drive area was very clean; we had tea and snacks there. We were at a far away distance from Swargadwar. The whole beach was enormous in length, and not all parts of it were equally crowded. The crowded areas were very happening, lots of fun-filled activities were going on like camel riding, selling designer bags, etc.
We returned to home on 26th of January. The day before that, we had a bath for almost three hours. As the sea waves were coming after us, we were running to the shore, and as they were losing strength, we were again going neck-deep in water. There was an unfurled Indian flag somewhere on the beach. It looked great. I was overwhelmed by depression at the time of returning home. I kept thinking of that one tour for a long time afterwards.
