Suntalekhola ~“Be There to Feel the Nature”

Want to spend some idle time in the lap of nature? Then book tickets for Suntalekhola forest today. It’s a small village in Darjeeling, famous for its picturesque scenery. Even though remote and small, tourists from all corners of the world visit Suntalekhola for what it showcases for them.

The moment I stepped on Suntalekhola’s soil, I felt amazed. Staying in Kolkata made me accustomed to pollution, congestion and traffic. But in Suntalekhola, I didn’t have to put up with any of them. The vicinity of the open nature stoked my poetic self, and I made this place the dedicatee of few of my poems (amateurish ones though).

Beautiful Suntalekhola :-

The place gets even more appealing after the sunset. But we didn’t stay there for a night, which I still regret. I recommend you to visit Suntalekhola during the rainy season so you could enjoy the greenery to the fullest. Visiting in the winter is not a bad idea either. We visited in December 2012, the weather was good and we enjoyed the tour thoroughly.

Jhalong and Bindu are two nearby tourist hotspots, and they both are great places to visit. So a quick trip to them won’t be a bad idea. You can head for a Jhalong-Bindu-Samsing road trip as the trip will cover Suntalekhola.

Rocky Island is adjacent to Suntalekhola; the place has rocks scattered everywhere. Spending time with friends while sitting on the rocks by a stream has its charm. The water in the stream was cold, and the flow was decent; not too fast, not too slow. The soft sound of the flow, coming from the stream was playing like music to our ears.

Our trip covered Bindu, a small village near India-Bhutan border. It’s in high altitude, so take precaution before visiting it. It’s in Dooars, and quite offbeat as a tourist attraction. Bindu is the home of Jaldhaka Dam, which passes through the borders of both countries. Tourists can see the dam from a distance, but are not permitted to go any near.

There are plenty of budget hotels in this village and they all offer a homelike environment. So staying here won’t be a problem. The only problem is not much sightseeing options are available in Bindu. You can enjoy the view of some of Bhutan’s mountains though; they are kilometers away.

“Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.”

The trip was incredibly good. I am planning to visit Suntalekhola again. You should start planning that too.
